WEST SPRINGFIELD – There are 25 Level 2 or 3 registered sex offenders living and/or working in town, and one of them is listed as being "in violation."

"Level 2" means the person has a moderate risk of reoffending, and "Level 3" means there is a high risk.
Level 2 offender Barry M. Parker, 64, is the only one listed as being "in violation." The police department's records division confirmed that Parker has not been arrested and referred further questions to the state's Sex Offender Registry Board. A spokesman said he was not authorized to explain any further.
Massachusetts state law says that a violation occurs when a sex offender: "Fails to register... fails to verify registration information as required... fails to update registration information as required... (or) provides false information."
The rest of the registered offenders are not considered wanted and the state warns that it is illegal to harass them.
