Charlton Athletic still want to sign another midfielder and Leeds United's Eunan O'Kane remains a target.

Former Leeds midfielder Lee Bowyer is the current manager of Charlton and he could look to his former club for his next transfer target after confirming that he was interested in signing a new midfielder, Football.London reports.

Bowyer's words have sparked rumours that he is ready to swoop for long-term target O'Kane with The Yorkshire Post's Live League One Blog confirming that Charlton are still in for the midfield man.

O'Kane has been frozen out by Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds and does not feature in the Argentinian's plans.

With Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips nailing down the starting central midfield spots, Lewis Baker and Jamie Shackleton on the bench and Adam Forshaw to return from injury, there is no place in the squad for O'Kane.

The 7-cap Republic of Ireland international has played 58 games for the Whites since his 2016 arrival from Bournemouth but could now drop down to League One with Charlton circling.

The Verdict

While O'Kane does not have a future at Leeds, he would be a very good signing for Charlton.

At League One level, the 28-year-old could dictate play in the midfield and he would be an asset for the Addicks, who have a very thin squad.

A loan deal works out well for now and Charlton can assess whether they want to make it permanent later.
