Trump again cuts Biden lead in Arizona as more ballots counted

PHOENIX – As more ballots were counted in Arizona, President Donald Trump continued to cut into Democrat Joe Biden’s lead Thursday, according to Secretary of State statistics.

Biden led 50.06%-48.54% and by around 46,000 votes, the office’s website showed, down from around 68,000 in an earlier Thursday update and 92,000 votes Wednesday.

Trump picked up around 180,000 of the Maricopa County ballots counted late.

Statewide totals stood at 1,528,319 votes for Biden and 1,482,062 votes for Trump.

The Associated Press projected Biden winning Arizona shortly after election night, after an analysis of ballots cast statewide concluded there were not enough outstanding to allow Trump to catch up.

With 80% of the expected vote counted, Biden was ahead by 5 percentage points, with a roughly 130,000-vote lead over Trump with about 2.6 million ballots counted.

The remaining ballots left to be counted, including mail-in votes in Maricopa County, where Biden performed strongly, were not enough for Trump to catch up to the former vice president.

Biden flipped multiple states Trump won in 2016, most notably Michigan and Wisconsin for 264 electoral votes, while Trump has 214. It takes 270 to win the presidency.

One win in an undeclared state would give Biden the presidency.
