Marcus Stoinis provided a typically hilarious interview after he was named One-Day International player of the year at the Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne.

The WA all-rounder was quizzed on his bizarre outfit and how he got the nickname ‘Oil’ on stage at Crown Palladium.

Channel Seven host Jason Richardson rocked the same glasses and hat combination as Stoinis during the discussion before asking “what the hell are we doing looking like this?”.

The 29-year-old, who is in the mix for an Ashes Test debut in England later this year, revealed he wore tanning oil “once” during a holiday in Greece, which was the cause of his nickname.

Stoinis was one of three West Aussies in the top-five for the ODI award, polling 30 votes to edge out Aaron Finch (22 votes), Shaun Marsh (18) and Travis Head (14).

Paceman Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye (nine) shared fifth spot with nine votes apiece.
